From the Pastor

By Dave Crouse

This is the month of November and with the holiday of Thanksgiving it is traditionally the time when we take time to thank God for all of his blessings.

Perhaps no story sums up the idea of giving thanks to God more than the story of the Ten Lepers in Luke chapter 17. The story goes like this…On his way to Jerusalem, as Jesus was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?

In this story we can see three main points: the men enjoyed their blessing without giving thanks, the men ignored the source of their blessing, and God was grieved by their ingratitude!

Let me encourage you to take time over the next few weeks to pause and give thanks to your God for the blessings He has given to you. Acknowledge that He is the source of all the blessings in your life so that instead of a grieved heart, God may glow in the praises that come from the thankful heart of His children.

May Paul’s encouragement be your goal for the month of November…

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Thanking Him for You, Pastor Dave

Here are some comments you may never hear in church:

  • Hey!  It's my turn to sit in the front pew.
  • I love it when we sing hymns I've never heard before!
  • Pastor, we'd like to send you to this Bible seminar in the Bahamas.
  • Since we're all here, let's start the service early.
  • I volunteer to be the permanent teacher for the Junior High Sunday School class.
