Pastor's Corner

Dear CCH Family,

As I look at the future of Christian Church of the Hills, I have a vision of a church that is not only meeting the needs of those “within” its walls, but also meeting the needs of those “outside” its walls. This is the same vision that God had for the nation Israel.

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe him…” Isaiah 58:6-7

My goal is to have a church that is “internally strong” but is “oriented externally.” I want to engage our community with the good news of Jesus Christ and the good works of Jesus Christ.

Our effectiveness as a church will not be measured solely by how many people we get into the church and generating activity there, but also by how many people we can get out into our community sharing the love of Jesus and meeting the many needs that exist.

A small start to this vision is our “Church in the Park” event. On Sunday, June 24 th @ 11:00 a.m. we will be taking our church out into the community. It is just one small step to help us become “externally oriented”. I hope you’ll make every effort to be there on that day and to invite your friends and neighbors to a great day in the park!!

In His Love,

Pastor Dave

Youth News

By Amber George

The youth ministry has been keeping busy and there is no slowing down. We (thankfully) have done our lock-in, which was a lot of fun… and tiring. And, we have some fun events planned for June also.

With the end of the school year quickly approaching we will be having our end of the year party on June 13th. The party will be at Golf n’ Stuff in Ventura with the Pathfinders. (Please read details in Kids Korner).

I have also asked the youth to be a part of Prayer Day on Saturday, June 9th. They are able to sign up for a 30 minute time slot between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Please encourage your kids to sign up for this wonderful day. Sign-up on Sunday in the church lobby.

And, on Wednesday, June 20th the youth will be taking a field trip to pass out fliers about Church at Chumash Park to the neighborhood surrounding the park. The kids will also be doing another random act of kindness on this trip to show God’s love to our community.

Summer camp at Angeles Crest Christian Camp is coming up soon and payment will be due Wednesday, June 6th. Please see Amber for more info.

Also, don’t forget to invite your friends to Church at Chumash Park on Sunday, June 24th. It looks like it will be a great time for everyone.

A very exciting time of year is coming up really soon. It’s… the end of school!!! And, that means that summer is almost here. The Pathfinders have a lot of exciting things planned in the month of June and some changes in the schedule as well.

The Pathfinders last Wednesday night meeting will be on June 13th. We will have our end of the year party at Golf n’ Stuff in Ventura with the youth group. This event will have a special time: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Please make sure kids are there on time so we can leave immediately. The cost will be $11.00 for a round of golf, a ride attraction and tokens for the arcade. It will be a fun way to end the year. I will need drivers for this event. Let me know if you would like to join us.

After the end of the year party the Pathfinders will be taking a break from the normal Wednesday night bible study. Instead, we will be having special events and trips throughout the summer on various days of the week. The kids have voted on some of the events they would like to do this summer including Mountasia, Fo-fo Figgly and a mega-Monopoly tournament. A schedule will soon follow.

In Sunday school the kids will be starting a new series on Understanding the Bible . The lessons include God’s Library on June 3rd, God’s People on June 10th, and Jesus and Company on Father’s Day, June 17th. On June 24th the kids will have a special Sunday school at CCH’s Church at Chumash Park event. And speaking of Church in the Park, don’t forget to invite friends to the service and BBQ.

I want to also thank all the teachers for their help throughout this school year: Miss Pat, Miss Kitty, Doug Schafer, Dave and Lara Barrett, Dani Crouse, Judy Leese, Shonna Bryant and Lori George. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work for the Children’s Ministry.
