Pastor's Corner

Dear CCH Family,

Over the last few months, the Elder Board and the church staff have been taking a look at where we feel God is directing this church and this ministry. There is a collective agreement that God is leading us to become much more “outreach focused” – which is the need for our church, our congregation, “to make a difference in the community that we live.”

For the past two months, I have had our Elder Board and the staff read a book entitled, “ The Externally Focused Church ”. The point of the book is to not only minister to those who are “inside” the church, but also to minister to those “outside” the church – those who have needs in our community.

Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin had made the following statement …”If you are not making an impact outside of your four walls, then you are not making an impact at all.” He then challenges churches to consider their ministry by asking the following questions, “If you [your church] picked up and left, how would the city feel? Would your city weep? Would anybody even notice? Would anybody care?”

Over the next few months we will be looking at how CCH can make an impact outside the four walls of our church. We will be asking for your input on how we can minister to the needs of our community and we’ll ask you to join us on the journey toward “making a difference in the community that we live.”

Wanting to be a difference-maker,

Pastor Dave

Kids Korner

by Amber George

Well, we are officially into summer now and things are definitely heating up. We ended the school year on a high note with our trip to Golf n’ Stuff with the youth group. Everyone had a great time. And, we have a lot more fun events coming up.

The children have already gone on their first summer outing to see the Disney Pixar movie, Ratatouille. It was such a cute movie and I know the kids really enjoyed it.

Our next event is on Wednesday, July 11th. We will be going to Fo Fo Figgilys in Oak Park. The price will be $5.00 for this event. We will meet at church at 4 p.m. and be back at 6:15 p.m. Don’t forget your socks!

On Saturday, July 21st we will be going Atomic Bowling for kids in Simi Valley. We will meet at CCH at 2:30 p.m. and will be back at 5:30 p.m. The price is TBA.

Our last event in July is a joint trip with the youth group to Knott’s Soak City in Buena Park. We will leave right after church service on Sunday, July 29th.   We will be back at CCH at around 8:30 p.m. (depending on traffic). Ticket prices will be determined based on how many kids attend. We will be having sign-ups for this event. So, please let us know if your child can or can not attend.

Also, we have started a new Sunday school curriculum for the summer. We will be going through stories in the Old Testament learning about the History and Prophets. It is an exciting curriculum that the kids are sure to get a lot out of.

After a crazy couple of months things are finally back to normal and I am back in the Children’s Ministry. I had a great time helping out with the youth, but it is good to get back to my younger kids. We are all so happy to welcome Brett Ryan as the new youth pastor. Brett, good luck. Maybe getting some ear plugs would be good.

Have a great summer everyone and a Happy 4th of July!   - Amber
